Hōkūleʻa Gearing Up for 50th Anniversary Voyage

In July, 澳博体育app下载 employees in Honolulu had the opportunity to tour the iconic Polynesian voyaging canoe Hōkūleʻa, “Star of Gladness,” and its double-hulled sister canoe, Hikianalia, the Hawaiian name for the star also known as Spica.

As a longtime supporter of the Polynesian Voyaging Society, 澳博体育app下载 provides shipping services when these vessels need to be transported to or from various locations across the Pacific.

During the tour, employees learned that Hōkūleʻa is 62 feet long, has 10 bunks, and typically sails with crews of 10 to 12 members. In December 2023, Hōkūleʻa returned home in the wake of the devastating wildfires on Maui, putting the Moananuiakea voyage on pause.

Next year, the Moananuiakea voyage will relaunch starting in Tahiti, coinciding with the Hōkūleʻa’s 50th anniversary. The 47-month voyage will cover 43,000 nautical miles, visiting 36 countries and archipelagoes, nearly 100 indigenous territories and 345 ports. The initiative aims to inspire and develop young leaders, connect and engage global communities, and highlight the importance of oceans, nature, science and indigenous wisdom. Each leg will have a specific purpose, ultimately connecting Pacific communities for collective action toward a shared sustainable future.
